Linda Kathryn Harwood passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, in the Monument Health Sturgis hospice care center.
Linda was born on February 3, 1949, in Sturgis, South Dakota, to Frank and Marie (Baker) Frey. She had four brothers, Frank, Robert, James and Paul Frey, and one sister, Audrey (Frey) Masters. Linda grew up on a small family ranch north of Sturgis, and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1967. Linda attended Black Hills State College, graduating in 1971, and was married to Frank Warren Harwood on December 31, 1971. She worked for the Veterans Administration hospital at Fort Meade for 34 years and retired in 2005. Shortly after retirement, she began working part time for the Sturgis Monument Care Center until she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2019.
Linda was generous and dedicated to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her hard work ethic, determination, appreciation of simple comforts, and love of warm weather. However, her strong faith and her love for her husband, Frank and her dog, Kobi will be remembered most of all.
She is survived by her brother, Paul Frey; and sister, Audrey Masters; as well as her daughters, Robyn (Monte) Kniffen, Kimberly (Chris) Ross; son, Chad (Tiffany) Harwood; and grandchildren, Clare and Glen Kniffen, Corrina and Madeline Ross, William Kayser, Londin, Dylon and Dawson Harwood, Niklaus Magelky, Isaak Bailey, Julian Hester, Luke Kjell and Lille Fernandez; and great granddaughter, Harper Burkhalter-Harwood.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Harwood, her parents, Frank and Marie Frey, and her brothers, Frank, Robert, and Jim Frey.
