STURGIS, SD – For decades, Marcia Potts has helped others. Students, friends and family have all relied on her in her many roles, including as a long-time school nurse in the Meade 46-1 School District.
Now, Marcia needs help. An MRI done for a hip replacement uncovered something much more serious; a stomach cancer that had metastasized to bones.
“I know that Marcia is a very caring person, she has a lot of drive and determination. I suspect she’s going to fight this cancer battle very well,” says Peterson. ”She’s got a lot of friends, she’s a large part of the Sturgis community – her whole family is – and that just attests to the fact that she’s a really nice person to be around.”
Sign-in is at 10:30am for the non-competitive Walk/Run that begins at 11a.m. in the City Park at the Old Stone Shelter. Peterson explains that people can participate in the Walk/Run and/or enjoy music from DJ Chad Legner that will be a part of the day. Ice cream and prizes are also part of the event.
“After the 5K Walk/Run, we’ll have raffle drawings and serve ice cream sundaes. The idea is that people can purchase $10 tickets with a chance to win a variety of prizes donated by local individuals and businesses. The more tickets you buy, the more chances you have to win.”
Proceeds will help the family with ongoing expenses for chemotherapy and immunotherapy along with travel to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Tickets are $10 and customized T-shirts designed and donated by Tom’s T’s can be ordered the day of the 5K Walk/Run. If unable to attend, donations can be sent to: Northern Hills Veterinary Clinic, C/O Marcia Potts Fundraiser, 713 Anna St., Sturgis, SD 57785.
