STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade School Board on Monday discussed anticipated future growth in the Piedmont and Summerset areas.
That projected future growth has the district discussing a possible purchase of 8 acres of property adjacent to Stagebarn Middle School.
Dr. George Jenter has offered the property to the district for one million dollars.
The board had a purchase agreement written up and they discussed that last night.
Superintendent Don Krikegaard says the district has no immediate plans for the land, but believes it is the best land possible for projected growth due to its proximity to existing infrastructure.
He says the board will further discuss the possible purchase of the property next month.
Meanwhile, Kirkegaard says the district has 26 active cases of COVID-19 as of Monday.
He says 14 of those affect the elementary schools, 7 affect the high school and 3 affect the middle schools. One staff member is out with COVID-19.
He says the numbers remain low enough that they remain under the green phase – which means normal and masks are not recommended.
