PIERRE, S.D. – The state department of health reported 120 new COVID-19 cases in South Dakota in their Tuesday update, with all but one in the greater Sioux Falls metro area.
Health officials said 114 of the cases were in Minnehaha County and five cases were in neighboring Lincoln County.
Health Secretary Joshua Clayton says of the 114 in Minnehaha, 88 were tied to the Smithfield Food Plant. The total number of cases tied to the plant has now risen to 438.
Codington County had the one additional positive test reported today.
There were no new positive tests for COVID-19 being reported in western South Dakota, where Pennington County remained at 9. There are currently no active cases being reported in Meade and Lawrence Counties.
The cumulative statewide total is now 988. There are 721 active cases.
Cumulative hospitalizations are at 45, up one from Monday’s 44. Deaths remained at six.
