PIERRE, S.D. – In the Monday COVID-19 report, South Dakota health officials report 79 new cases of the virus with 15 of those listed as probable.
There was one new death reported today, sending the state’s death toll to 1,981. The new death was a female from Pennington County in the age 80+ age range.
Active cases of the virus dropped by 40 to 1,211 and the number of people hospitalized was back up by 4 to 81.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County had 20, total new cases Monday, with 4 of those listed as probable. That sends the total in Pennington since the pandemic began to 13,706.
Butte County added 4 new cases Monday with Lawrence, Meade, Custer and Fall River County all reporting one new case.
There are now nine counties listed as having “Substantial” community spread. Six counties have no community spread, while 23 counties are listed having “Moderate” community spread and 28 counties have “Minimal” community spread.
In the Black Hills area, Custer County is the only one listed as having substantial spread. Butte, Lawrence, Meade and Pennington all have moderate community spread.
