STURGIS, S.D. – Active cases of COVID-19 continue to see new highs as the state broke 6,000 on Monday.
In their daily report at COVID.SD.GOV, health officials say there were 344 confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, along with 15 probable cases. The total for today is 359.
Active cases hit a new high at 6,062. Also up today were the number of people hospitalized due to the virus. The hospitalization rate was 278 Monday – up 12 from Sunday.
Two new deaths were also reported Monday. he two new deaths were females with one in the 80+ age range and one in the 50-59 age range.
As for new cases around the Black Hills area, Pennington County saw an additional 56 new positive COVID-19 tests sending their cumulative total to 3,177. Of those, 657 remain active cases.
Meade County reported 11 new cases, giving them 720 total with 148 active.
Lawrence County added 6 new cases Monday, sending the cumulative total to 567 with 124 active.
Butte and Custer counties each reported 4 new cases. Butte County’s total rises to 171 with 56 active and Custer has 222 total with 39 active.
Other new cases across West River include 14 in Todd, 12 in Oglala Lakota, 9 in Dewey, 4 in Bennett, 3 in Tripp, 2 each in Fall River, Corson, Haakon, Gregory and Jackson, and one each in Harding and Stanley counties.
Across all of West River, there were 135 new cases.
There were 1,133 new persons tested reported on Monday.
