Muriel Elaine Thomas was born November 9, 1927 in Fruitdale, South Dakota.   She was the daughter of George and Bessie (Faverty) Thomas.  Muriel grew up in Fruitdale.  On January 14, 1945 she was united in marriage to James Leslie Jeffery at the First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche.  Together they were blessed with 63 years of marriage.  Following their marriage, they farmed and ranched in the Fruitdale area for many years.  Muriel loved the farm life, and she worked hard taking care of the home, as well as the farm, hand in hand with James.  In 2007, James died at the age of 82.  About ten years later, Muriel moved to the Edgewood Vista Senior Center in Spearfish.  For health reasons, Muriel spent the last month of her life living at the Crook County Long Term Healthcare Center in Sundance.

Muriel will be remembered for her sweet and loving personality.  She was very generous and she took care of many loved ones.  She was a mother before she was a mother, because of her love and compassion for others.   She was a strong woman and she had a sharp memory.  She could remember faces and stories very well.  Muriel lived through a lot throughout her life, and wherever she was, she made friends.  She will be missed by her family and friends very much.

Muriel is survived by her son, George of Belle Fourche; daughter, Carlie (Devin) Brashears of Belle Fourche; grandson, Rodney (Militza) Hecker of Gloucester VA; granddaughter, Shawna Ginsbach of Tacoma WA; 4 great grandchildren, Karina, Dylan, Courtney, Chris; 5 great great grandchildren, Havana, Emma, Genevieve, Kiera, Riley; and son-in-law, Andy (Betty) Demos of Belle Fourche.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James Arthur; daughter, Wanda Demos; and siblings, Gene, Viola, Georgia, Donny, Wanda, and Weldon.
