STURGIS, S.D. – The number of new COVID-19 case Sunday again breached 1,000 as 1,017 confirmed cases and 46 probable cases were reported.
Active cases hit another new high at 10,745 and the number of people hospitalized across the state rose 10 today to 366.
The Department of Health indicated nine new deaths were also reported as October continues to be the worst month for the state since the pandemic started.
New cases across West River totaled 267 Sunday with Pennington County accounting for 94 and Oglala Lakota County accounting for 35 of them.
Oglala Lakota County is seeing its worst month so far as total cases reach 832 and of them, 441 cases remain active.
In Pennington County, the cumulative total rises to 4,136 today with 1,065 remaining active.
Lawrence County added 22 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, sending the cumulative total to 836 with 261 active. Meade County recorded 15 new cases Sunday, sending the total to 900 with 189 remaining active.
Butte County saw another 11 new cases today, sending the total there to 304 with 124 active.
Other new cases across West River Sunday include 19 in Todd, 13 in Lyman, 9 in Corson, 8 in Dewey, 6 each in Tripp and Mellette, 5 each in Custer and Fall River, 4 each in Gregory and Jackson, 3 in Stanley, 2 each in Harding, Haakon and Bennett and one each in Perkins and Ziebach counties.
