STURGIS, S.D. – For a second day in a row, new COVID-19 cases totaled nearly 400 and there were five new deaths reported in the Friday update from the Department of Health.
New cases totaled 389 with active cases up 194 Friday to 2,809.
The five new deaths included one person in the 40-49 age range, one in the 70-79 age range and three in the 80-plus age group. One of the deaths was out of Meade County – the county’s fourth COVID-19 related death. Other deaths were reported out of Fall River, Turner and Hutchinson counties. The five new deaths raise the state’s death toll to 198.
The number of people hospitalized in the state remained stable at 138.
New cases around the Black Hills area totaled 45 with Pennington County accounting for 29 of them.
Pennington’s total rose to 1,926 with 329 of them remaining active. Active cases are up six today.
In Meade, 8 new cases were reported, giving the county 430 total and 92 remaining active.
Lawrence County added 3 new cases, sending their total to 312. Of those, 61 remain active.
Other new cases around the Black Hills area included 4 in Fall River and one in Butte counties.
Total cases across West River were 85.
