PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 579 new cases of COVID-19 in their latest 24 hour report. Of those 579 new cases, 106 are considered probable.
The number of active cases across the state increased by 335 Wednesday to a total 5,370.
The number of people needing hospitalization due to the virus increased to 229. Hospitalizations in the Black Hills are at 115 today, up four from yesterday. There are 47 in the I.C.U. and 13 on ventilators. The number of patients on ventilators decreased from 20 yesterday while the number of patients in the I.C.U. more than doubled from Tuesday’s report.
No new deaths were reported.
Across the Black Hills area, there were 292 total new cases with 39 of those considered probable cases.
Pennington County added 131 confirmed new cases Wednesday as well as 28 considered probable.
Meade County added 37 confirmed cases and 3 probable and Lawrence County also had 37 confirmed new cases with one probable case.
Butte County reported 30 confirmed cases and one probable.
Elsewhere, Fall River had 3 confirmed and 5 probable, Custer County added 6 confirmed and one probable, Harding County reported 5 new cases for a second day in a row and Oglala Lakota County had 4 new, confirmed cases.
