PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials recorded 1,434 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday.
The new cases pushed the state’s active caseload over 14,000 for the first time to 14,373. The number of people hospitalized due to the virus rose by ten Saturday to 415.
Ten new deaths were also reported, giving the state 425 total since the pandemic started. The state reported 2 deaths each in Oglala Lakota and Jackson and one each in Davison, Faulkton, Haakon, Hughes, Lyman and Union.
Across West River, there were 371 new cases reported. Pennington County had 154 of those, sending the cumulative total to 4,787 and 1,387 remain active.
Lawrence County added 39 new cases, sending the total to 1,021 with 359 remaining active.
In Meade County, there were 20 new cases. Meade County has a total of 1,015 with 236 remaining active.
Butte County added 12 new cases Saturday, giving them a total of 408 with 198 active.
Other new cases West River Saturday include 32 in Oglala Lakota, 22 in Todd, 17 in Bennett, 16 in Dewey, 9 in Tripp, 8 each in Custer, Ziebach and Gregory, 6 each in Lyman and Jackson, 5 in Mellete, 4 in Fall River, 2 in Corson and one each in Harding, Perkins and Haakon counties.
