BOX ELDER, S.D. – Fire crews in Box Elder have been busy responding to a trio of structure fires over the past 24 hours.
The first fire was called in around 11:36 Wednesday morning. First arriving crews noticed fire and smoke visible in an occupied residential structure in the 100 block of Johnson Drive in Box Elder. One adult occupant was rescued and transported by ambulance to Monument Hospital.
A second alarm for a structure fire was sent out at 1:39 Wednesday afternoon. First arriving fire crews noticed fire and smoke visible in the unoccupied home in the 200 block of Douglas Road.
One firefighter was treated for heat related issues, otherwise there were no injuries reported.
The third fire was reported at 5:17 p.m. in the 1500 block of Prairie Edge Drive in Box Elder.
Fire crews say fire and smoke were visible as they arrived. The home was occupied, but the homeowners were able to escape safely and no injuries were reported.
A rapid attack by Firefighters contained the fires to the structures of origin, stopping the spread of the flames to nearby structures, infrastructure, and other improvements.
Cause of all three fires were under investigation.
The American Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota and neighbors are assisting the affected occupants.
