RAPID CITY, S.D. – Both Sturgis Scooper boys and girls won the team titles of the Best of the West Cross Country meet on Thursday.
The Scooper boys finished with 33 points with Rapid City Central in second and Spearfish placing third.
The Scooper girls won the team title with 28 points. Rapid City Central finished in a close second and Rapid City Stevens was third.
Winning the boys race was Peyton Cast of Douglas with a time of 16:47.76. Trevor Thomsen of Rapid City Central was second. Two Scooper racers finished in third and fourth. They were Deron Graf and Morgan Papenfuss.
Winning the girls race was Sheridan Madden of Rapid City Central in a time of 19:53.29. Katelyn Beshara, also of Rapid City Central, placed second and Kira Ubence of Douglas was third.
Five Sturgis Scoopers finished in the top ten – Brinna Sheldon in fourth, Lucy Hamer in fifth, Iris Zylstra in sixth, Paige Willnerd in eighth and Charlee Bierle in tenth.

In other Cross Country action Thursday, Belle Fourche won the boys and Red Cloud won the girls at the Region 5A Meet.
Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche won the boys race in a time of 16:26.83. His teammate Lane Krautschun finished second and Luke Rupert of Hill City was third.
Winning the girls race was Jade Ecoffey of Red Cloud with a time of 20:00.58. Her teammate Ashlan Blount finished second and Ramsey Karim of Custer placed third.
