STURGIS, S.D. — The Northern Hills Veterans Appreciation Fair will feature the fourth annual “We Got Your Six” event Saturday at the Sturgis Community Center.
The moniker is a military term that means “we’ve got your back,” and it’s been the title of this particular event since its inception in 2020. The event is open to all veterans and their families.
The Northern Hills Veterans Appreciation Fair is a collective gathering of a variety of governmental entities, non-profit organizations, and businesses that support veterans. The event is organized to provide information about the multitude of services that are available for vets.
Organizer Julie Malcolm says the event will also feature a free lunch.
Malcolm said the event is different from others around the area, because it is open to family members.
Malcolm said she has been thrilled with the growing numbers every year. This year, she is expecting about 400 attendees.
Also this year, the National Guard’s 842nd Engineering Company will bring in two Humvees. Sturgis American Legion Post 33 Second Vice Greg Harrington.
Some booths this year will include veterans service officers from each of the Northern Hills counties and the state; VA Services; VA flu clinic; support groups and veterans organizations; hunting camp; equine therapy; service dogs; housing; education; chair massages by Warrior Within Massage and Body Work, of Sturgis, and more.
