Oglala Sioux Tribe’s COVID-19 Response Task Force reports two positive coronavirus tests

PINE RIDGE, S.D. – A Facebook post by the Oglala Sioux Tribe’s COVID-19 Response Task Force Monday night indicates two new positive tests for the virus and a 72 hour lockdown is in place.

Dakota High Hawk, the Public Information Officer with the task force said in the post that as of 7:32 p.m. Monday, the Pine Ridge Reservation is on lockdown for 72 hours.

The lockdown is so health officials can try and trace back the whereabouts of the two people who have tested positive to prevent community spread.

The task force says the two cases are in the Wounded Knee District and the patients are in quarantine.

During the lockdown, movement is shut down and no one is allowed to leave their residences or engage in essential business. Violators can be fined up to $1,000.

Additionally, no one will be allowed to leave the reservation. However, dialysis needs and those and in need of emergency medial treatment are exempt. Those that have medical emergencies should call 911.

Farmers and ranchers are not allowed access to the reservation at this time.
