Police arrest man for child abuse after infant admitted to hospital

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City police say an infant has been admitted to the hospital and a local man has been charged with child abuse.

Police say James T. Cunningham, 26, is accused of causing serious, life-threatening injuries to a child. Police have not said what type of injuries the child suffered or how old the child is.

Authorities say they were initially called to a home in the 500 block of Hanover Drive Tuesday evening for a report of an unconsciousi child. The boy was taken to the hospital and Cunningham was arrested after an investigaton into the child’s injuries was conducted.

Cunningham was booked into the Pennington County jail and charged with child abuse. He is expected to make his initial court appearance Thursday.
