Police in Deadwood investigating fatal shooting at casino

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 28-year-old woman found on the dance floor of a Deadwood casino died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting at The Buffalo Bodega Gaming Complex just after midnight Saturday.

Medics attempted to revive the woman, but were unsuccessful. She was declared dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released and the incident remains under investigation.

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Police in Deadwood are investigating an early morning shooting that happened at a local casino.

Police report being dispatched to the Buffalo Bodega Gaming complex around 12:30 a.m. for a report of a woman being shot on the casino’s dance floor.

The police department located the individual and began to conduct life saving measures, with the assistance of the Lawrence county ambulance. Life saving measure were unsuccessful and the female subject was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say this remains an active investigation and Deadwood Police say they do not believe there is an active threat to the community at this time. Other agencies within the area are helping assist the Deadwood Police Department.

The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

Deadwood Police ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at 578-2623.
