STURGIS, SD – Shuffling the lineup and changing uniforms are two things Sturgis Post 33 head coach Wade Huntington has tried to stop the early season slide the Titans are experiencing in this American Legion season. Neither worked last night at Strong Field as Post 33 continues to struggle, losing to Rapid City Post 320 in game one and Casper Post 2 in the second matchup.
Post 320 defeated Sturgis Post 33 12-0 in game one thanks in part to seven runs on six hits in the seventh inning. The Stars smacked 11 hits in the game.
Jett Wetzler earned the complete game win for Post 320, giving up only one hit, striking out four and walking one. Beau Peters took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. The right-handed pitcher went four innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out four and walking three.
Connor Cruickshank got the lone hit for the Titans.
In game two, the Casper Post 2 Oilers scored one run in the first and one in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Titans battled and got runners on base in the second, third and fourth innings but couldn’t plate a run until the bottom of the seventh, when they scored two.  The Oilers pounded out nine additional runs in the late innings to put Sturgis away by a final of 11-2.
Nolan Hornecker earned the win for Casper, giving up three hits and no runs over four innings, striking out five and walking three. Yaden Miller took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. Owen Cass started on the hill for Sturgis allowing three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out five and walking four.
Connor Cruickshank, Evan Stroud, Dylan Christenson, Cass, and Adam Flohr each collected one hit for the Titans. The Oilers had 12 hits and were led by Holden Christensen, Sawyer Nielsen, Kaeden Wilcox, and Hunter Hauck with two hits each.
The Titans fall to 1-8 on the Legion season. Post 33 travels east this weekend to take on Brookings and Yankton on Friday.
