Primary Election Day is Tuesday; absentee ballots need turned in by then

STURGIS, S.D. – Don’t forget, this coming Tuesday is primary election day in South Dakota.

Along with races for State Senate and House and legislature, there is a school board race for Meade 46-1.

Twelve candidates are running for three spots for the board. They are Darrell M. Vig, Mud Butte, prior board member Robert Burns, Black Hawk, new candidates, RJ Ludwick, Sturgis, Brian Voight, Sturgis, Holly Good, Rapid City, prior board member, Terry Koontz, Sturgis, new candidate, Jon Swan, Sturgis, incumbent, Joseph Urbaniak, Union Center, prior board member, Curtis Johnson, Piedmont, additional new candidates, Shelia Trask, Elm Springs, Sara Nelson, Sturgis, and Cody King, Sturgis. 

There is also a race for county commission in Meade. That race is in District 4 between the incumbent Ted Seaman and challenger Brenda Pates.

In the South Dakota Legislature District 29 House race, there are four Republican candidates running. They include Dean Wink, Thomas Brunner, Lincoln Shuck and Kirk Chaffee. Voters will choose two candidates.

Brunner and Chaffee are the incumbents.

In the South Dakota Legislature District 29 Senate race, incumbent Republican Gary Cammack of Union Center faces Republican Terri Jorgenson of Piedmont.

Meade County Auditor Lisa Schieffer says absentee ballots are due by 5:00 p.m. June 2. If you haven’t turned in your absentee ballot yet, you need to do so.
