RAPID CITY, S.D. – The head of the Rapid City Board of Education says all employees will get their normal salaries while schools are shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mike Roesler has told area media that it’s important to keep staff paid.
“When we close schools, and especially this time when we don’t know for usre how long we’ll be closed, it’s important to pay our staff.”
Governor Kristi Noem and the state health department requested all schools shut down this week to allow for a deep clean. Schools are hoping to get students back Monday, March 23rd, although Noem says they will revisit the situation later this week.
Roesler also says while schools are closed, not all staff will be at home or not working. He says maintenance staff will be hard at work cleaning and sanitizing and teachers are working on education plans.
RCAS schools are also sending out notifications to families to let them know that school packets can be picked up. Those packets will have enough work for three weeks should the closure last longer.
Parents can call their respective school to get information on the packets.
