PIERRE, S.D. – It was another high caseload day as the South Dakota Health Department reported 251 new COVID-19 cases Saturday.
As testing ramps up around the Black Hills area after the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally ended, positive tests continued their uptick in Pennington, Meade and Lawrence counties.
Pennington County reported 34 new COVID-19 cases, sending their cumulative total over 1,000 to 1,028. Of those, 151 are currently active – an increase of 25 over Friday.
In Meade County, where testing of asymptomatic residents began Friday, 14 new COVID-19 cases were reported. Meade County saw their cumulative total rise to 152 with 55 of them still active. The active cases are up 12 from Friday.
Lawrence County added an additional 10 new cases Saturday, sending their total to 100 with 35 active. The active cases are up 7 over Friday.
Custer County also saw 10 new cases Saturday, giving them 74 total with 37 active.
Butte County added two new positive COVID-19 tests, sending their total to 26 with 10 active cases.
And, Oglala Lakota County recorded 3 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 163 with 19 currently active.
Statewide, active case numbers increased 164 to 1,540.
There are 66 people currently hospitalized statewide due to COVID-19. That is up 16 from Friday.
There was one new COVID-19 related death reported Saturday as well. It was a resident of Hutchinson County.
