Scooper Baseball Squad Travels to Chamberlain and Drops Two Games

CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. —  The Sturgis Scoopers traveled east on Saturday to play a doubleheader in Chamberlain.

Both Sioux Falls Roosevelt and the Sturgis Scoopers had their offenses going on Saturday, but the Scoopers eventually succumbed 16-6 in the high-scoring affair. The Scoopers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Roosevelt, giving up 16 runs.


Sturgis opened up an early lead in the first inning when Owen Cass singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Roosevelt took the lead for good with nine runs in the third inning, highlighted by Marcus Phillip’s two-run homer.
The Scoopers scored three runs in the sixth inning, with hits by Ridge Inhofer, David Anderson, and Cass, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.


Cam Jones pitched Roosevelt to victory. The pitcher lasted two and a third innings, allowing two hits and two runs. Carter Portner and Mitchell Willis entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Kelton Olson took the loss for Sturgis Scoopers. The righty went two innings, allowing seven runs on four hits and striking out three.


Sturgis totaled seven hits. David Anderson, Cass, and Inhofer each collected two hits to lead the Scoopers. Roosevelt tallied 16 hits in the game.


In game two of the doubleheader the Scoopers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 12-2 loss to Brookings.
Brookings scored on a walk by Jake Ammann, an error, and a walk by Josh Devine in the first inning. Brookings scored four runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Brookings came thanks to a fielder’s choice by Payton Theodosopoulos and an error on a ball put in play by Jackson Krogman.


Ammann was the winning pitcher for Brookings. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five. Charlie Holm led Brookings with two hits in three at bats.


David Anderson took the loss for the Scoopers. The southpaw lasted three innings, allowing one hit and ten runs while striking out six.  Ridge Inhofer went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Sturgis in hits.

Sturgis falls to 4-5 on the season and are in action at home on Tuesday, hosting Douglas in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
