STURGIS, SD — The 2024 Sturgis Scooper football team honored outstanding players and performances on Monday night at the Sturgis Community Center.
Scott Jensen was the Master of Ceremonies and kept the crowd entertained and the awards show moving along with football anecdotes from the season.
Scooper head coach Chris Koletzky produced highlight reels of all the nominees, as coaches and two KBHB sports announcers presented awards to the category winners.
Sub-Varsity: Garrett Rohloff
Offensive MVP: Sully Jost
Outstanding Wide Receiver: Teigen Wormstadt
Outstanding Offensive Linemen: Conner Schmidt / Gunner Sarkela
Outstanding Defensive Lineman: Aaron Morovits
Outstanding Linebacker: Kalvin Ketelsen
Most Valuable Defensive Back: Jaxon Cano
Special Teams Player of the Year: Cade Willnerd
Scout Team Player of the Year: Tayden Larson
Breakout Player: Robert Sperling
Coach Koletzky presented All-Area awards to Ketelsen, Morovits, Carter Williams, Jost, Sarkela, Blair and Wormstadt. Morovits and Ketelsen were named to the 11AA all-state football team, with Jost earning honorable mention all-state.
Named to the Academic All-State squad were Williams, Jake Krog, Wormstadt, Schmidt and kicker Elliot Smith.
Koletzky presented the “Lead Em’ Up Green Competitor of the Year” to Cade Willnerd, and the highly coveted Doug Miller Award to Kalvin Ketelsen.
The Scooper coaches honored the Senior players with Scooper helmet replicas at the end of the awards show.
Sturgis finished their 2024 season with three wins and six losses, narrowly missing the postseason playoffs.
