Sturgis Scooper baseball shuts out the Cobblers

STURGIS, SD – Owen Cass had all the right stuff on Monday for the Sturgis Scoopers baseball team, striking out eight and allowing zero runs, shutting out Rapid City Central 13-0 in five innings.

The Scoopers secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fourth inning. The rally was led by singles by Cass, Reece Jacobs, and Hunter Janzen, and an error on a ball put in play by Bricon Herren.

Cass got the complete game win for Sturgis and Brodee Matthews took the loss for the Cobblers. Matthews went three and a third innings, allowing 13 runs on eight hits and striking out one.

Sturgis scattered eight hits and were led by Janzen and Cass, each racking up multiple hits for the Scoopers. Cass and Janzen both went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Sturgis improves to 9-7 and hosts the Douglas Patriots on Tuesday night in a doubleheader at Strong Field in the regular season finale.  Game one starts at 5pm.
