Shooting suspect tracked down via ankle monitor

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A man is now behind bars after allegedly shooting a woman in Rapid City over the weekend. It happened Friday night on Lacrosse Street on the city’s north side where responding officers found the woman with a gunshot in her arm.

Luke Eagle Star Jr., 30, was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault as well as a bond revocation.

The woman, who was not identified, was taken to Monument Hospital for treatment of her gunshot wound in the arm.

According to a Rapid City Police Department Release, witnesses in the area of 1900 block of North LaCrosse Street pointed them to Eagle Star who was quickly tracked down because he was wearing an electronic monitoring device on his ankle.

Multiple witnesses at the scene identified the alleged shooter as 30-year-old Luke Eaglestar Jr. of Rapid City. Eaglestar, who was under electronic monitoring with an ankle bracelet, was tracked from the initial location to the Surfwood Drive area. Subsequent tracking data revealed that Eaglestar was picked up by a vehicle in the Surfwood Drive vicinity and transported to a residence in the 700 block of Anamosa Street.

Law enforcement swiftly located Eaglestar concealed in a bathroom at the residence and took him into custody for three counts of Aggravated Assault and a Bond Revocation. Another individual, 22-year-old Kyle McClure of Rapid City, present at the residence, was arrested on a Parole Hold. Both Eaglestar and McClure were transported to the Pennington County Jail.

The investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing as authorities work to gather additional details.
