OSAGE, Wyo. – Fire officials in Weston County, Wyoming say the Skull Creek Fire grew to approximately 1,000 acres Thursday as it continued to burn actively.
The fire was sparked by lightning on Wednesday and is listed as 30-percent contained.
Fire officials were preparing to dig in for a night of high winds as a strong cold front was forecast to move through the overnight with possible thunderstorm.
The priority of the firefighting effort is firefighter and public safety.
Incident Commander Daniel Tysdal also listed minimization of public loss and protection of private timber and grazing as objectives of the multi-agency response.
The Sundown Trails Subdivision is in the pre-evacuation stage. Everyone in this subdivision has been notified.
No roads have been closed at this time.
The multi-agency effort now has over 40 firefighters on scene. Along with fire engines, there are multiple tenders (water-trucks) dozers and blades. Cooperators managing the fire include Weston County Fire Protection District, Wyoming State Forestry, Weston County Sheriff’s Office, Weston County Emergency Management, and the United State Forest Service Thunder Basin National Grassland unit.
