South Dakota COVID-19 cases increase 93 in Friday’s report

PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota Department of Health reported Friday an additional 93 cases of COVID-19 in the state – with three new cases in Pennington County.

The new cases raise the county’s cumulative total to 43 and there are 27 active cases.

Oglala Lakota County reported 3 new positive cases in the latest report, giving the Pine Ridge Reservation 5 active cases.

Other cases reported Friday include 57 in Minnehaha, 19 in Brown, 4 in Yankton, 3 in Lincoln, 2 each in Todd and Grant and one each in Charles Mix, Clay, Corson, Hughes, Roberts, Sanborn, Stanley and Turner.

One new death was reported on Friday; it was a woman in the 80+ age category from Minnehaha County.

The active case count is at 1,269, down from Thursday’s 1,312. That means recoveries were up. The state reported 137 new recoveries Friday.

80 people are in the hospital with COVID-19; an increase of 5 from Thursday’s numbers.

There have been 23,527 negative tests in South Dakota. Pennington County has had 1,308, Meade County has 361, Lawrence County has 253 and Butte County has 96 negative tests.
