State Department of Health reports 77 new COVID-19 cases; 20 of them scattered around the Black Hills

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reports 77 new COVID-19 cases and the Black Hills area accounted for 20 of them.

Pennington County reported 15 new cases today, Meade County added three and for the first time in over a month, Lawrence County reported two new COVID-19 cases today.

Pennington County now has 153 active cases, Meade County has 7 and Lawrence County has 2.

Other cases today were 32 in Beadle, 12 in Minnehaha, 3 in Brown, 2 in Grant and one each in Brookings, Buffalo, Day, Edmunds, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake and Spink Counties.

Five new deaths were reported today as well. Four of them were in Minnehaha County and one was in Beadle County. The state’s total number of deaths now related to COVID-19 is 59.

The number of active cases stands at 1,063, up 22 since Thursday.

The number of hospitalizations decreased from 105 Thursday to 95 Friday.
