PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota’s deadliest month since the COVID-19 pandemic started, ended with another 12 twelve deaths to begin November, according to health officials Sunday
In their daily report, the state Health Department reported 1,332 new cases Sunday, 12 deaths, and 421 people are hospitalized.
October was the deadliest month for the pandemic as 202 people died due to COVID-19 complications.
For the first time in weeks, active cases saw a large decrease today to 13,138 – down 1,235 from Saturday’s 14,373.
In fact, active cases decreased across the board in most Black Hills area counties. Pennington County reported 127 new cases Sunday, but active cases decreased 127 to 1,240. The cumulative total number of cases in Pennington County rose to 4,914.
Lawrence County reported 40 new cases, sending the total to 1,061 with 344 active cases. The active number of cases dropped 15 in Lawrence County Sunday.
In Meade County, active cases dropped 21 to 215 and 25 new cases were reported, giving Meade 1,040 total.
In Butte County, 12 new cases were reported for a total of 420. Active case number 185 today, down 13 from Saturday.
Oglala Lakota County recorded 29 new cases Sunday, sending their total to 1,051 with 465 active – that is down 56 from Saturday.
Other new cases West River Sunday included 11 in Corson, 8 in Lyman, 6 in Gregory, 5 each in Fall River and Bennett, 4 each in Custer, Mellette and Tripp, 3 in Todd, 2 each in Perkins, Stanley, Haakon, Jones and Jackson and one each in Harding and Dewey counties.
In all, there were 295 new cases West River Sunday.
