State health officials report 240 new COVID-19 cases; active cases, hospitalization numbers drop

STURGIS, S.D. – Active COVID-19 cases dropped 39 Sunday and the number of hospitalizations were down 5 according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

In their Sunday report, health officials reported 220 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, but the number of active cases dropped to 3,018 from Saturday’s 3,057. The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 also dropped Sunday to 81 from Saturday’s 86.

Around the Black Hills area, there were 35 new cases of COVID-19 reported.

Pennington County had 19 new positive tests, sending their cumulative total over 16-hundred to 1,617. Active cases are down 5 Sunday to 444.

There were 6 new cases reported in Meade County. There are 344 total cases in Meade with 130 of them remaining active. The active caseload in Meade is down 6 Sunday.

Lawrence County reported 2 new cases and the active caseload is down 9 today. Lawrence County has 260 total cases with 96 remaining active.

Other new cases Sunday included 2 each in Butte, Custer, Fall River and Oglala Lakota counties.

There were no new deaths reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 173.
