STURGIS, S.D. – New COVID-19 cases totaled 1,362 according to the State Health Department’s Wednesday report.
It was a deadly report as 27 people were added to the state’s death toll. The new deaths sent the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 567. So far in November, there have been 142 deaths. The new deaths were 17 men and 10 women listed in the 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-plus age ranges. The most deaths were in the 80-plus, where 17 were reported.
Active cases surged past 17,000 today to 17,461. Hospitalizations, however, decreased to 543 – down 64 from Tuesday’s report. The number of I.C.U. beds available in the Black Hills region remained just over 9-percent today.
New cases across West River totaled 447 with Pennington County adding another 194 Wednesday. The new cases give Pennington County 6,175 total and of those, 1,826 are active.
Lawrence County tallied 62 new cases Wednesday, sending the county total to 1,454 with 530 remaining active.
In Meade County, 27 new cases were recorded Wednesday and the cumulative total reached 1,271. There are 306 active cases in Meade.
Butte County added 21 new cases Wednesday for a total of 535 and 210 active.
Other new cases across West River included 32 in Oglala Lakota, 28 in Dewey, 15 in Gregory, 10 each in Fall River, Tripp and Todd, 9 in Custer, 8 in Perkins, 7 in Lyman, 6 in Stanley, 2 each in Bennett and Ziebach and one each in Jackson, Haakon, Jones and Mellette counties.
There were 2,421 new persons tested reported on Wednesday. The new persons tested positivity-rate for Wednesday is 56 percent.
