PIERRE, S.D. – The state health department recorded 81 new positive tests for COVID-19 according to its Wednesday update. A new death was reported today as well in hard-hit Beadle County.
In the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 14 new cases, giving them a cumulative total of 335 and 167 active cases. Of the new cases in Pennington are positive tests at a nursing home care center.
Health Secretary Kim Malsom-Rysdon gave an update today on the situation at Avantara Arrowhead.
“The total reported from the facility today are 9 staff and 18 residents positive and that includes 2 additional residents that were reported last night.”
Other new cases in the Black Hills area include 2 new positive tests in Meade County. The county’s cumulative is now 28 with 10 active cases.
Oglala Lakota county recorded 5 new cases for a cumulative total of 45 with 24 active cases.
Other new cases today include 12 each in Beadle and Minnehaha, 9 in Faulk, 4 in Clay, 3 each in Lincoln and Lyman, 2 each in Brookings, Brown, Hutchinson, Todd and Union and one each in Buffalo, Clark, Codington, Hamlin and McCook counties.
Active cases statewide are down 10 today to 962, but the number of people in the hospital is back up over 100 at 101.
