State reports just 43 new COVID-19 cases Monday, no new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – As is customary on its Monday report, the state Department of Health reported just 43 new cases of COVID-19 with 6 of them considered probable.

A slow down on testing over the weekend usually results in smaller numbers to open up the week.

Active cases dropped by 15 today, totaling 1,918. The number of people hospitalized due to the virus jumped up a little bit to 92 and no new deaths were reported. The state’s death toll is 1,888 after two deaths were reported on Sunday.

Pennington County reported 4 new, confirmed cases and one new probable cases. Meade, Lawrence, Custer and Oglala Lakota County all reported 2 new, confirmed cases each.

The new persons tested 268. That is a 16% positive rate among new persons tested.
