STURGIS, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 772 new COVID-19 cases today. 748 of them are confirmed and 24 are probable.
Active cases also rose today to a new high – 5,188. That is up 515 from yesterday.
The state also recorded another five new deaths, sending the state’s total to 277. The new deaths on Friday included three men and two women with three listed in the 80+ age range, one in the 70-79 age range and one in the 60-69 age range. Two new deaths were in Lincoln County, one new death was in Minnehaha County, one new death was in Grant County and one new death was in Yankton County.
Hospitalizations were down 17 today to 267.
New cases across West River totaled 177, with Pennington County adding 80 new cases. Active cases in Pennington rose to 586 as the cumulative total hit 3,001.
Meade County reported 15 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 684 with 133 active.
Lawrence county added 8 new cases, giving them a cumulative total of 533. Of those, 109 remain active.
Other new cases across West River today included 25 in Oglala Lakota, 8 in Bennett, 7 in Todd, 6 in Dewey, 4 each in Butte, Haakon, Jackson and Tripp, 3 each in Custer and Corson, 2 each in Fall River and Mellette and one each in Stanley and Gregory counties.
There were 2,862 new persons tested reported on Friday.
