SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The final day of the State Track and Field Meet was held Saturday as winners were crowned in the final events.
For Sturgis, Aiden Hedderman won the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in a personal best of 14.47 seconds. Hedderman wins the 110- meter hurdle championship for the second year in a row. Hedderman also placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Spearfish saw Jaden Guthmiller bring home state gold in the 100-meters and Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens set a new record as he won the 1,600 meters.
On the girls side, Rapid City Stevens brought home the gold in the 4×100 meter relay and Brynn Nelson of Stevens won the javelin with a state record throw of 136-feet, 3-inches.
Sawyer Dennis of Sturgis brought home the fourth place medal in the girls 400 meter dash.
In Class A action, Blake Boyster of Custer won both the 200 and 400 meter dash while Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche brought home a second place finish in the boys 1,600 meters. On the girls side, Ashlyn Carlow of Red Cloud won the 300 meter hurdles.
In the team standings:
Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Christian, and Colman-Egan won state titles in girls, while O’Gorman, Sioux Falls Christian, Gregory, and Ipswich took home state championships in the boys. Gregory and Ipswhich tied for the ‘B’ boys title.
Deubrook Area, Sioux Falls Christian, and Brandon Valley claimed the combined team awards.
Custer finished a respectable second in the Class A boys and Stevens finished third in Class AA boys.
