STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council has approved entering a professional service agreement with Fennell Design in cooperation with Commercial Recreation Specialists to come up with a preliminary design for the Sturgis Lakeside Adventure Park.
This follows the recommendation of the Sturgis Aquatic Committee, who turned in their information on the proposed project last month.
The team from Fennell and CRS will meet with several groups over the next 45 days to work on the design.
Then, the team would submit preliminary plans in September. After final revisions, the final preliminary plans and responses to various questions would be delivered by the first of November.
The professional service agreement includes a professional fee of $52,750, which will be covered through the Capital Improvement Fund.
The Sturgis Aquatics Committee is hoping for a man-made lake for swimming and other recreation to be built on property that was the Sturgis Fairgrounds. Other amenities being considered besides the lake include a splash pad, zero entry sand beach, floating inflatable adventure courses, miniature golf, a playground, concession stand and walking trails.
