STURGIS, SD  – The City of Sturgis along with community partners unveiled new Main Street sculptures during an evening presentation, June 3 at Rally Point.

The 2021 Downtown Sturgis ArtWALK event included the placement of four new sculptures on Main Street.

Sturgis City Council President Beka Zerbst

“The Sturgis ArtWALK is a culmination of years of collaboration, commissions, fundraising and individual efforts from local organizations and residents,” said Sturgis Council President Beka Zerbst. She opened the ceremonies with the first unveiling of the four new sculptures with “Chief’s Daughter,” by B. Carlyle, Loveland, CO. The life size bronze was chosen because of its reflect ion of the Native American culture of the Sturgis area.

This was followed by a walk through Main Street to unveil all the sculptures and visit with the artists. “Outer Limits” by artists T. James and A. Demarais, Good Thunder, MN, “Horse” by T. Sorenson, Sturgis, SD, and “Bicycle Tree” by artist D. Lewis, Hastings, MN.

Veronica Grosik, executive director of the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center said a large part of launching such events and presentations is to showcase more artistic and cultural opportunities for people in the community and for visitors to enjoy as well.

The event launched Sturgis ARTWALK that features over 20 works of art throughout the community. Using a map developed to identify each location, viewers can follow a path of artwork that is on display throughout the community,  on a self-guided tour.

The Sturgis  ARTWALK brochure and map are available from the Sturgis Chamber.
