STURGIS, S.D. – You may have noticed the For Sale sign on the building that is home to the local bowling alley in Sturgis.
Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says the city of Sturgis noticed that too, and after learning of some highly motivated buyers who intended on making the building a rally-only business, have come up with a plan in hopes of keeping it local.
At Monday’s meeting, council members will discuss the Sturgis Economic Development Corporation obtaining funding to buy the building.
Ainslie says S.E.D.C. is working with a local operator who would take over operations of the facility and make payments to purchase the bowling alley from S.E.D.C.
Ainslie says the city would provide funding to S.E.D.C. to assist in the purchase of the property. The loan made to S.E.D.C. would be fully collateralized by the property.
Ainslie says recognizing the important role that the bowling alley plays in the economics downtown, the Downtown Foundation has unanimously supported the plan.
