STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Police say they are investigating a rash of vehicle thefts and burglaries overnight in the south end of town.
Police Chief Geody Vandewater says they had reports of 5 vehicles being broken in to with various items taken from them. There were also two stolen vehicles, including one from outside a home on Hillside Drive.
Reportedly, the vehicles were unlocked and the stolen vehicles had keys left inside them.
Vandewater says he can’t stress enough to not leave valuables or keys inside an unlocked car. That makes it easy for criminals to target you.
As of this morning, the two stolen vehicles had been recovered by police. One vehicle was recovered in Rapid City, the other in Sturgis.
Vandewater says he’s heard reports of vehicle thefts and burglaries in Summerset as well.
