STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis approved a coontract with the South Dakota Department of Transporation to alow for the purchase of a portion of the former Richards property off I-90’s Exit 32.

Lot 2R of the Southside Addition will be used by the D.O.T. for fill dirt to be used for the reconstruction of I-90’s Exit 34.

The city was offered $981,950 for the lot, which consists of approximately 48.59 acres. The council could use these funds at their discretion to either increase reserves or pay off existing debt.

The city will retain approximately 17 acres that could be used for future parks, open space, school or development.

The council also approved Resolution 2025-11 Thursday night, which is the plat for 7 lots to be used for housing and an 8th lot to be used to the city’s new water well on the former Richards property.

The homes are part of the original purchase agreement reached with the Richards family when the city purchased the property.
