STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Titan swept a double-header over Douglas in Saturday afternoon legion baseball action at Strong Field.
In game one, the Titans rolled to a 12-2 win in three innings. Sturgis scored 7 in the first, 2 in the second and 3 in the third.
Colton Cruickshank got the pitching win for Sturgis, allowing 5 hits for 2 runs, striking out 3 and walking two.
In game two, it was a much closer game and came down to the seventh inning, where Sturgis had to come from behind to get the win.
Both team scored a run in the first and the Titans took a 2-1 lead after 2 innings; only to see Douglas answer with 2 runs in the third and 2 runs in the fourth.
Down 5-2 in the fifth, Sturgis got an in-the-park home run from David Anderson that drove in two runs to cut the lead to 5-4.
After holding Douglas scoreless in the sixth and seventh, Sturgis got the win on a steal from third to home by Zach Hess and a single that drove in the winning run.
Anderson finished the game with 3 hits and 3 R.B.I.’s. Kain Peters added two hits for the Titans. Colton Tipton led the Patriots with 3 hits and 3 R.B.I.’s.
Dylan Gillespie had 7 strikeouts to get the pitching win for Sturgis.
