Ten new deaths reported in Friday COVID-19 update, 5 of them in the Black Hills

PIERRE, S.D. – The state health department reported 10 new COVID-19 related deaths Friday, with half of them from the Black Hills.

Of the new deaths, 3 were reported out of Pennington County and Lawrence County reported 2. The death toll in Pennington rises to 175 and the death toll in Lawrence is 44. The statewide death toll is now 1,798.

New cases Friday totaled 137 with 31 of them listed as probable.

The active caseload dropped 87 to 2,430. The number of people hospitalized due to the virus dropped five Friday to 121.

Of the new cases across the Black Hills area, Pennington County had 19 new, confirmed cases and one probable.

Lawrence County added 4 new, confirmed cases and Meade County had 3 new, confirmed cases.

Butte County added a probable case and Fall River had one new, confirmed case Friday.
