STURGIS, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 984 new, confirmed cases of coronavirus Tuesday with 5 probable cases.
The new cases sent active cases in the state to 11,188 – another new high. The number of people hospitalized due to the virus also increased to 395 today. The percentage of COVID-19 patients occupying I.C.U. beds has increased across the state and they now account for 26-percent of those beds in use.
The majority of the new cases remain East River as West River accounted for 158 of the new positive tests.
Pennington and Oglala Lakota County remain the hardest hit counties as Pennington added 56 new cases and Oglala Lakota added 23.
Pennington County has a cumulative total of 4,239 with 1,051 active cases. Oglala Lakota now has 878 total cases with 448 active.
Meade County added 10 new cases Tuesday, sending the cumulative total to 916 with 182 active.
Other new cases West River included 16 in Bennett, 15 in Todd, 10 in Dewey, 6 each in Butte and Lyman, 3 each in Tripp and Corson, 2 each in Custer, Ziebach, Jackson and Gregory and one each in Lawrence and Jones counties.
No new deaths were reported Tuesday, keeping the state’s death toll at 375.
