PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 49 new positive cases of COVID-19 in its Tuesday report.
The state reported 5 additional cases in Pennington County – giving them 32 cumulative positive tests.
On Monday, the Great Plains Tribal Health Board Chairman reported 16 positive tests for COVID-19 at the Oyate Health Center, formerly Sioux San, in Rapid City.
Chairman Jerilyn Church also stated one of those testing positive works at the Wal-Mart store on North LaCrosse in Rapid City.
State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton says “we have not identified any specific hot spot yet in Pennington county and the individual case identified in that employee, there is no known cases that has resulted in any other known cases.”
The state also recorded five new deaths today – all residents of Minnehaha County. The five new deaths included one male and four females. One death was listed as a man age 30-39, the first in South Dakota listed in that age range. One was listed age 50-59, one was 60-69 and two were listed as 80-years old or older. The state death toll is now 39.
Other cases today included 25 in Minnehaha, 5 in Brown, 3 each in Todd and Union, and one each in Beadle, Clark, Clay, Corson, Davison, McCook, Moody and Yankton.
Active cases in South Dakota decreased to 1,315, down 78 from Monday.
Current hospitalizations are at 74, down four from Monday.
