BLACK HAWK, S.D. -Several homes were evacuated Monday night after two sinkholes opened up in the Black Hawk area.
Authorities from Meade and Pennington County were called to East Daisy street Monday evening after a report of a sinkhole was received.
Upon arriving on scene, officials reported a sinkhole that was growing at the end of a driveway of a home.
Authorities say another sinkhole had opened up across in the street in the backyard of another home.
Jerome Harvey with Pennington County fire told reporters he believed the first sinkhole was approximately 40-feet by 40-feet and 60 feet deep. The second hole was estimated at 12 feet-by12-feet and 30 feet deep.
Authorities evacuated 12 homes due to the situation.
Crews were going to monitor the sinkholes overnight.
