STURGIS, S.D. – With the school bells quiet now until August, some kids in the Meade 46-1 School District may also be without a nutritious lunch.
That’s why the Sturgis United Methodist Church is teaming up to provide free sack lunches for kids who need it on Wednesday’s through the summer.
Today was day one for the sack lunch program.
Deb Holland with United Methodist Church says free sack lunches are available to elementary and middle school students. She says the program has grown over the years.
The lunches are available for pickup at two locations, the Sturgis United Methodist Church and the Sturgis Public Library, between 11:00 a.m. and Noon on Wednesday’s.
Today, lunches included either a peanut and jelly or ham and cheese sandwich, fresh fruit, juice pouch, chips and a fruit roll up.
Holland gave thanks to Grocery Mart for providing food and supplies for the lunches.
Sack lunches will be available on Wednesday’s through June and July.
