STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported a lower amount of new cases but hospitalizations have shot back up over 100 in their weekly COVID-19 report.
New cases of the virus totaled 956 this week while active cases statewide decreased by 44 to 709.
Hospitalizations, however, increased to 107 from last week’s 85. The Black Hills accounts for 27 of those, although none of the patients are in the I.C.U.
There were three new deaths reported this week, sending the state’s total to 3,017. One of the new deaths was in Custer County.
New cases across the Black Hills area included 131 in Pennington County, 40 out of Meade County and 10 from Lawrence County.
Elsewhere, there were 18 in Oglala Lakota County, 12 in Butte County, 9 out of Fall River County, 7 in Custer County and Harding County reported one new case.
