RAPID CITY, S.D. – Wednesday was the second and final day of the Range Beef Cow Symposium, hosted at the Monument in Rapid City this year.
Among the professors, producers, and major players of the cattle industry attending this year was the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association. Executive Director James Halverson says it’s a great opportunity for those involved in agriculture to get together and discuss hot topics.
State Senators from South Dakota and surrounding states participated in a Q&A session for attendees on the second and final day of the event, including Senators Gary Cammack from South Dakota and Ogden Driskill of Wyoming.
For both states, beef prices are among the main issues for ranchers.
The event also saw a wide range of topics covered, from Blockchain in the beef industry, to how to identify blind spots in calf health and heart failure in fed cattle.
Known for its wide-ranging topics, demonstrations and practical applications, the symposium has been held biennially among the four cooperating states — Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming — since 1969.
SDSU Extension helps sponsor the event for South Dakota.
