OSAGE, Wyo. – Fire crews are battling a wildland fire in northeast Wyoming.
The Skull Creek Fire has charred an estimated 600 to 800 acres. It is located approximately 6 miles north of Osage, west of Skull Creek Road.
The fire grew rapidly Wednesday due to dry fuels, hot temperatures, low humidity and windy conditions.
The fire is burning just east of the Sundown Trail Subdivision, where pre-evacuation orders have been put in place.
Over 40 firefighters, 19 engines, 4 dozers, 2 blades and 4 water tenders were on scene. Fire containment is estimated to be about 25%. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the fire area beginning at 10 am Thursday morning and a High Wind Warning beginning at 6 pm Thursday night. Firefighters will continue to construct fire line, reinforce existing line and concentrate efforts on protecting the subdivision while ensuring firefighter and public safety.
