RAPID CITY, S.D. – Area fire crews battled a grass fire east of Rapid City Tuesday.
The fire broke out on east Highway 44, near mile marker 75, east of Caputa. Crews were called around 11:30 Tuesday morning to the blaze which had burned around 1,000 acres.
Dry conditions and very windy conditions hampered the firefighting effort.
By late afternoon, crews had stopped forward progress on the Creston Fire and mop-up was underway.
There was no word on the cause of the fire.
